Background

Santos was born and raised in the city of Rondonopolis, and his upbringing was not particularly safe; at the age of 12, he was introduced to cockfighting, which was popular and not yet illegal in Brazil. A career in mixed martial arts

Santos won his first two fights with the British Cage Rage organization before returning to Brazil’s Jungle Fight, where he won by knockout over future KSW Middleweight Champion Michal Materla, Materla’s only knockout loss of his career. Santos then competed for the Cage Rage World Light Heavyweight Championship against Dutch kickboxer Melvin “No Mercy” Manhoef. Santos was knocked out after a highly entertaining fight in which the two traded punches. Before making his PRIDE FC debut, Santos won his next two fights, including a majority decision over future UFC veteran Francis Carmont.

Fighting Championships PRIDE

Santos made his PRIDE FC debut, losing to submission specialist Kazuhiro Nakamura via keylock submission. Santos won his next fight with the Japanese organization against Japanese professional boxer Yosuke Nishijima via rear-naked choke submission.

The Road to World Victory

Santos fought for the Cage Rage World Light Heavyweight Championship again, this time against James Zikic, but was defeated by unanimous decision. Santos then lost by TKO to Armenian superstar Gegard Mousasi before making his debut in World Victory Road Presents: Sengoku Raiden Championships against Makoto Takimoto, whom he defeated with an achilles lock. Santos fought again for the Japanese organization, this time against future UFC veteran Siyar Bahadurzada, but was defeated by TKO after suffering an arm injury.

Strikeforce

Santos made his Strikeforce debut on June 19, 2009, as the main event of the Strikeforce Challengers: Villasenor vs. Cyborg event, but lost by split decision to former King of the Cage Middleweight Champion Joey Villasenor. In his next fight, he faced and defeated Marius Zaromskis, who was competing for the vacant Strikeforce Welterweight Title against Nick Diaz.

On January 29, 2011, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, Santos challenged Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz for the title.

He was defeated in the second round by armbar submission.

Santos was supposed to fight Paul Daley at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson, but he had to pull out due to a shoulder injury.

On September 10, 2011, Santos faced Strikeforce newcomer Jordan Mein at the Strikeforce World Grand Prix: Barnett vs. Kharitonov. After a grueling back-and-forth battle, “Cyborg” was defeated by Mein via TKO due to elbows in the third round, handing “Cyborg” back-to-back defeats. Santos has now lost four of his last six fights.

Santos requested his release from Strikeforce after a long period of inactivity in order to fight more consistently. His wish was granted.

Legacy MMA Championship

On February 1, 2013, Santos was scheduled to face Pete Spratt at Legacy Fighting Championship 17.
However, due to an injury, Santos was forced to withdraw from the fight and was replaced by Dan Hornbuckle. [5]

Santos returned to the sport after nearly two years away[6] to face Artenas Young in the main event of Legacy Fighting Championship 50 on January 22, 2016.

He was victorious by unanimous decision.

Super Gringo Fight

On April 28, 2014, Santos made his GSF debut against Melvin Manhoef in a rematch from 2006. Santos, who was knocked out by Manhoef in their first fight, was knocked out again in the first round.  Shortly after the fight, Santos announced his retirement. [9]

MMA Bellator

On March 1, 2016, Bellator MMA announced that Santos had signed a multi-fight contract with them.

Santos made his Bellator 153 main card debut on April 22 in a welterweight matchup, defeating Brennan Ward via first round submission.

Santos agreed to fight Saad Awad at Bellator 154 on May 14, 2016, but was defeated.

Santos faced Michael “Venom” Page on July 16, 2016, and was defeated via KO with a flying knee, resulting in a frontal sinus fracture.

Santos announced his retirement in January 2017. He coached for a year in Curitiba, Brazil. He returned to the United States in early 2018 and now coaches in his own gym in Texas. Santos confirmed in August 2018 that he had no plans to compete again.

Career in kickboxing Michael Page

Curtis Page Sr., his father, was his teacher.
His sister Sefena, as well as his brothers Curtis Jr., Jamie, and Kalon, are all kickboxing champions.

Page began training in Lau Gar when he was three years old and competed in his first kickboxing tournament when he was five.

He began competing at the age of eight and competed in his first international tournament in Germany.

Page won ten world championships in kickboxing, the first being the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships in Orlando, Florida in 1998[26].

Page began competing in adult competitions at the age of 13.  He would train five hours a day, five days a week to prepare. Due to competing in three weight classes, he would often fight up to 14 times per day during tournament days, and at one point fought 22 times in a day across five weight classes.  Another world title came in 2007 at the W.A.K.O. World Championships in Coimbra, where he won gold in the 89 kg semi-contact division after defeating Dave Heffernan.   He also competed in the W.A.K.O. Austrian Classics Worldcup 2008 (Kufstein), where he defeated Krisztián Jároszkievicz in the 84 kg semi-contact division.   Page competed in the W.A.K.O. Irish Open 2008 (Dublin), finishing second in the 84 kg semi-contact division to Raymond Daniels.  Page went on to win gold at the W.A.K.O. Austrian Classics Worldcup 2009 (Walchsee), taking first place in both the 84 kg light-contact and semi-contact divisions, defeating Bojan Miskovic and Zvonimir Gribl.  Page competed in the W.A.K.O. Irish Open 2009 (Dublin), but was defeated by Raymond Daniels, finishing second in the 84 kg semi-contact division. [39] Page, who was appointed WKA Head Coach, led a team to the WKA World Championships 2009 (Huelva), where they defeated James Benjamin Stewart to win gold in the organization’s first semi-contact prize competition and bronze in the 90 kg light-contact division after being defeated by Tarek Haydar.  After that, he competed in the W.A.K.O. World Championships 2009 (Lignano Sabbiadoro) and finished second in the 84 kg semi-contact division, losing to Krisztián Jároszkievicz. On September 4, 2010, he competed in the 84 kg semi-contact division at the World Combat Games 2010 (Beijing), earning silver and losing gold to Krisztián  Jároszkievicz.  Page defeated Raymond Daniels in the 84 kg semi-contact division at the W.A.K.O. Irish Open 2011 (Dublin).

The Great Britain Taekwondo team scouted Page to train and qualify for the Olympics, but he declined to pursue a professional combat sports career.

When not competing, Page instructs others in kickboxing, primarily at the Hands Down Martial Arts Academies located throughout Surrey.
