Vijaykumari (Wife of Sadhguru): Bio
At the age of 25 in the year 1982, Jaggi Vasudev had a spiritual experience that changed the course of his life forever. He renounced all his material possessions and set out on a quest to seek answers to the fundamental questions of life.
Two years later, he met Vijaykumari, a working woman employed at a bank. The two met in Mysore at a lunch where Jaggi Vasudev was invited. They connected well, and soon they started spending more time together.
Next, they got married in 1984 on the day of Mahashivratri. Vijaykumari was 21 then, and Vasudev was 27. Despite working, Vijji would accompany Vasudev and volunteer at his yoga programs whenever she could.
Their marriage was a beautiful blend of spirituality and companionship, and they complemented each other in every way possible. A year later, the couple visited Kalakshetra and decided if they ever have a daughter, they’ll enroll her in Kalakshetra.
Vijaykumari (Wife of Sadhguru): Early Life
Five years later, in the year 1990, the couple was blessed with a daughter. She was named Radhe. Little Radhe went to Rishi Valley school for eight years (started by J. Krishnamurthy) and then took classes in Kalakshetra for four years.1
She is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer now. Radhe was the center of their lives, and they did everything they could to provide her with the best possible education and upbringing.
Vijaykumari (Wife of Sadhguru): Samadhi
Time progressed, and Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev along with his wife Vijaykumari started working for the consecrating of Dhyanalinga, which he had talked about in his programs at the Yoga Isha center.
Everything was going on perfect until Vijaykumari decided to leave her body once the consecration was complete.
As narrated by Vasudev, Vijji announced that she would leave on a full moon day, and soon she started working towards it.
Next, on the decided full moon day, Vijji sat with a group of meditating people, and eight minutes later, left her body without causing any damage to her body by taking a Mahasamadhi, an ultimate goal of the majority of the spiritual seekers. The incident left everyone in shock, and many questions were raised surrounding her death.
Vijaykumari was only 33 years old when she left her body in the year 1996, and her daughter was almost 7 years then.
This raised several questions surrounding her death. Next, a case was filed against Jaggi Vasudev in Bangalore by T.S. Ganganna, the father of Vijakumari and a resident of Bangalore.

Sadhguru: Who Is He?
Sadhguru is a man of many faces and dimensions. He is a guru, mystic, yogi, friend, consultant on all things known and unknown, poet, architect, and more. But amidst all these roles, he is also a husband and a father.2
Sadhguru met his wife, Vijaykumari, fondly called Vijji, two years after his experience of spiritual awakening. Their first encounter was in Mysore, at a lunch Sadhguru was invited to. This was followed by a brief but heartfelt exchange of letters, which culminated in marriage in 1984, on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri.
Despite Sadhguru’s hectic schedule of yoga classes, he would often crisscross South India conducting programs, and Vijji would accompany him on his motorcycle, volunteering at his programs when she could.
In 1990, Sadhguru and Vijji had a daughter, Radhe. Sadhguru shares that motherhood was a crucial experience in every woman’s life, and Vijji was very keen on having a child.
Interestingly, when Sadhguru was just 19 years old, he had visited Rishi Valley, one of the schools that J. Krishnamurti had started, and thought to himself, “If at all I do have a child, and for some reason I thought ‘she,’ ‘she’ must go to this school.”
Later, when Sadhguru and Vijji visited Kalakshetra, one of the best schools for classical Indian dance, they decided that if they had a daughter, she would go to this school. Radhe spent eight years at Rishi Valley School and four years at Kalakshetra, and now she has become a dancer.
Sadhguru: Career
As time progressed, Sadhguru focused his efforts on the completion of the Dhyanalinga, and Vijji was intimately involved in the process. In July 1996, they were consecrating the Dhyanalinga, and Vijji had decided that once the linga was complete, she would leave her body.
She announced that she would leave on a particular full moon day, and she started working towards that. Sadhguru tried to talk to her and asked her to wait, but she said, “Right now, my life is perfect, inside of me and outside of me. This is the time for me. I don’t know if another time like this will come for me.”
For some reason, they could not complete the consecration at that time. So on that full moon day, she sat with a group of people, meditating. Eight minutes later, she left, without any effort and with a big smile on her face. She was at the peak of her health, just thirty-three years of age.
Sadhguru explains that it is not easy to leave like this without causing any damage to the body. Just walking out of your body like you drop your clothes and go is not an ordinary thing.
When a person has reached that point in their life when they feel everything they need is fulfilled, and there is nothing more to see in their life, they drop their body willfully. If there is any struggle or injury, it means suicide. When there is no struggle, when somebody just walks out like they walk out of a room, that’s Mahasamadhi.
Once a person leaves like this, that person is no more. When somebody dies, you say they are no more, but that’s not true. They are “no more” the way you know them, that’s all. But once a person leaves in full awareness, shedding the body without causing any injury or damage to the body, that person.
