‘Scooty for Girls’ Scheme Launched in J&K

• Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti formally launched the Scooty Finance’scheme for J&K’s college going girls on September 11, 2016. The scheme envisages that the State government will facilitate purchase of scooties by the college going girls by bearing 50% cost of the two-wheeler.

• As per the scheme, a girl student pursuing a degree course of not less than three year duration can apply under the scheme.

• She should have secured not less than 65% marks in 10+2 and current degree course years. The student should not be less than 18 years of age, having a valid driving license.

• The yearly income of the applicant’s parents/guardian should not be more man Rs 4 lakh and should be able to finance the remaining 50% of the Scooty amount on ex-showroom price.

Odisha People Celebrated ; ‘Nuakhai’ Festival

• People of Kalahandi celebrated ‘Nuakhai’ on September 7, 2016. Nuakhai is an agricultural festival which is celebrated in Western Odisha, and is observed to welcome the new rice harvest of the season.

• The Nuakhai of Goddess Manikeswari falls on Bhadrab Shukla Dasami and people partake of the ‘naba anna’ after offering to the presiding deity, It is mainly observed by people of Western Odisha and celebrated by offering the nua to the deities. The word nua means new and khai means foodstuff.

• The people first remember their village god or goddess | and then eat the first of their nua.

Odisha Government Launched ‘Biju Kanya Ratna Yojana’ to Save Girl Child

• Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the BKRY and inaugurated 1000 anganvyadi buildings on September 3, 2016. The” BKRY will create awareness on gender discrimination against girls, their health, nutrition and education.

• The Yojana aims at providing elementary education to girls, provision of toilets for girls in every school, self defence training for girls, tracking dropout ratio of girls from schools, promotion of access to education, sensitising adolescent girls on sexual and reproductive health issues.

India’s First International Conference on LPG Cooking Gas Commenced

• State-owned petroleum companies held the nation’s first international conference on cooking gas in Bhubaneswar on September 1, 2016.

• The two-day meeting focused on issues like, the need for an LPG enabled household, problems arising due to absence of cooking gas, the usage of traditional bio rqass cooking fuels and their impact on both health and environment. Delegates from several developing countries, such as Brazil, Ghana, Nigeria, Nepaland Sri Lanka participated in the conference.
