100 Rural Drinking Water Projects Launched in Odisha
- Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated 100 piped water supply projects for rural areas on April 28, 2016 and committed to make piped water provision in all gram panchayats by 2017.
- The project is made at an estimated cost of 72 crore and it will help as many as 172000 people residing in rural areas. It was the birthday of Utkala Gaurav Madhusudan Das on April 28, 2016.
- Earlier, the government had inaugurated 100 urban drinking water supply projects for 41 urban local bodies of 20 districts in Odisha.
‘Operation Sulaimani’ Started in Kerala
- ‘Operation Sulaimani’ is an initiative of Kozhikode district administration to eradicate poverty and to avoid food wastage in the district, was stared on j April 26, 2016.
- Operation Sulaimani will provide food to around Rs 1000 people per day. The price of the food will be covered through sponsorship. The hungry people will be served food for free without asking any questions. The coupons will be distributed through the counters to be opened in the collectorate, village office and Taluk offices.
Plotted Housing Policy Launched by Haryana Government
- Haryana government notified the Affordable Plotted Housing Policy 2016 for low and medium standard towns under Deen Dayal Jan Awas Yojana on April 20, 2016.
- This is to achieve the goal of providing houses for all which will facilitate creation of additional affordable housing stock in the low and medium potential towns of the State.
- The scheme aimed at developing high density plotted colonies in low and medium potential towns where small plots are made available through a liberal policy framework within 7 years.
Ceasefire in Nagaland Extended by One Year
- The Union government and National Socialist Council of Nagaland, under the leadership of N. KitoviZhimomi and MB NeokpaoKonyaly mutually agreed to extend the Cease Fire Agreement 1 by another year with effect from April 28, 2016.
- Both the sides agreed that the ceasefire will follow to Ceasefire Ground Rules (CFGR) as mutually ratified.
- The CFGR will subject to mutual review and amendment with the involvement of both the parties.
- The agreement targets to bring lasting peace in the State of Nagaland with the involvement of Naga people.
Hologram Technique Launched in Maharashtra
- The Maharashtra government made it mandatory to have a hologram on every alcohol bottle manufactured and sold in the State on April 18, 2016.
- The decision was taken keeping in mind the last years tragedy at Malwani where about 100 people died after consuming spurious liquor. It will be mandatory to paste ‘polyester base track and trace’ hologram on every alcohol bottle.
- It will be supported by a mobile app, which will help consumers find out whether the liquor is fake or genuine. The technique will also help prevent loss of revenue due to cheap liquor being imported into Maharashtra from neighboring States.
