Australian Open 2016

  • Indian ace Saina Nehwal clinched her second Australian Open title after defeating China’s Sun Yu in a Super Series badminton tournament on June 12, 2016.
  • Earlier, she won Bronze medal at the London Olympics 2012. Besides these, she became the first Indian to win the World Junior Badminton Championships and Was also the first Indian to win a Super Series tournament, by clinching the Indonesia Open in 2009.
  • She also won silver at 2015 BWF World Championship becoming the first Indian to do so. She received Dronacharya Award.

Shooting

ISSF World Cup 2016

  • Ace shooter Sanjeev Rajput won the silver medal for India in men’s 50 m rifle in the event of the ISSF World Cup on June 26, 2016.
  • Earlier, he won 3 gold and a silver medal at SAF Games, Islamabad. He won the’50 m.free rifle three-position and the 10 m air rifle Champion of Champions events.
  • He won a Team Gold in Commonwealth Shooting Championship, Melbourne in March, 2005 in 50 m Rifle to 3 position event. He won the bronze medal in the men’s 50 m Rifle Prone at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. He won a bronze medal in the 2006 Asian Games, Doha.
  • In 2011, he won gold medal in world cup held in Korea. He also made a new national record in the same event by again breaking his own record 3rd time.
  • By winning this gold he became the third Indian to qualify for the London Olympics. He finished 8th place at the ISSF I World Cup finals in Poland in his pet event. He also won 5 gold and a silver medal in the 34th National Games.

ISSF World Cup 2016

  • Commonwealth Games gold medallist shooter Jitu Rai, bagged the silver medal in 10 m Air Pistol at the ongoing ISSF World Cup on June 25, 2016.
  • He pushed the free pistol gold medallist Jin Jongoh of Korea, the two-time World champion who has won five medals in the last three Olympics, including three gold, two the bronze by 0.5 point. It was only the third World Cup medal this season for-the Indian shooters.
  • Earlier, he won the free pistol gold in the first World Cup in Bangkok, He has so far won two gold, three silver and one bronze in the World Cups in the last three years.
