Indian Open 2017
- SSP Chawrasla became only the second Indian golfer to successfully defend the Hero Indian Open title on March 12, 2017.
- He clinched a seven-stroke win at the redesigned DLF Golf and Country Club. This was his sixth win on the Asian Tour and overall sixth international victory.
- Chawrasia is the third player to win back-to-back Indian Open. The other two golfers who did so earlier are Jyoti Randhawa who won in 2006 and 2007 and Japan’s Kenji Hosoishi who won in 1967 and 1968.

SHOOTING
ISSF Shot Gun World Cup 2017
- Ankur Mittal has delivered India’s nine-member contingent its first medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup (Shot Gun) in Acapulco, Mexico by shooting gold in the men’s double trap on March 22, 2017.
- He had a strong day, ending second in qualification with a score of 138 out of a possible 150. Against China’s Ying Qui he prevailed 6-5 in the shoot-off to decide second and third spots after both had finished their qualifying rounds on the same score.
- He stood second in the qualification round and thus qualified to the final of men’s double trap competition at the 2614 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow (Scotland).
- India ended their campaign in the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) with five medals, including one gold, two silver and two bronze medals on March 5, 2017.
- The gold went to Italy’s Riccardo Filippelli, who beat compatriot and reigning Olympic Champion Gabriele Rossetti in The final.
- Australia’s Paul Adams won the bronze medal. It has arguably been one of India’s best World Cup finishes ever with shooters Pooja Ghatkar in the women’s air rifle (bronze), Ankur Mittal in men’s double trap (silver), Amanpreet Singh in men’s 50 m pistol (silver) and hero of the New Delhi World Cup Jitu Rai in the men’s 10 m air pistol and 50 m pistol . (bronze and gold) winning medals for the hosts.
ATHLETICS
Special Olympics World Winter Games 2017
- India dominated in three team events—Floor Hockey (male). Unified Floortvall and Traditional FloorhaU bagging 30 medals in total which w as the highest tally n a single day. Along with this, the special women team also won 16 bronze medals.
- An important gold medal came in The Unified Floorball (Male) event where India defeated Nigeria while the Floor Hockey learn crushed Lithuania 7-2. India took its tally to 73 medals by winning 8-0 against Austria.
IPC Grand Prix 2017
- Indian para-athletes did the country proud by claiming 13 medals in the International IPC International Athletics Grand Prix at the Dubai on March 22, 2017.
- The medals indude five gold, three of which are won by Sundar Singh Gtujar.
- The women athletes also added to the Indian gold medal tally with a gold-stiver finish in the women’s wheelchair Shot Put F-55 category.
Asian Race Walk Championships
- National record holder KT Irfan won a bronze in the 20 km mens event in the Asian Race Walk Championships on March 21, 2017.
- He finished the race in I hour 20 minutes and 59 seconds, a tad slower than his national record timing of 1.20,21 which he set While finishing 10th in the 2012 London Olympics.

Asia Men’s Rugby Sevens
Trophy 2017
- The Indian men’s Rugby team, led by skipper Gautam Dagar, defeated Pakistan 14-12 to secure the 7th rank at the Asia Men’s Rugby Sevens Trophy held at Aspire Rugby Field In Doha (Qatar) on March 6, 2017.
- The team participated under the aegis of the Indian Rugby Football Union (1RFU), the governing body for the sport of Rugby In India, and is supported by Sodctc Gerterale, the financial partner of Rugby India.
- A total of 11 countries from across Asia including Singapore, Pakistan, Jordan, Philippines, Nepal, UAE, India, Thailand, Iran, Bangladesh and the host Qatar vied for top honours in the Asia Men’s Rugby Sevens Trophy.
