Shane Steichen Announced As Indianapolis Colts New Head Coach

In order to guide the Colts into the next age of football, Indianapolis will be led by a former offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, who is also fresh off an appearance in the Super Bowl.

On Tuesday, the Colts made the announcement that Shane Steichen will be taking over as the team’s next head coach.

Steichen was hired to replace Frank Reich, who was let go by the Colts in the middle of his sixth season with the team. Reich was hired in 2018 following a successful two-year run as the offensive coordinator for the Eagles, which resulted in a victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Following the stunning announcement that Andrew Luck will be retiring in 2019, the Indianapolis Colts will hire an inexperienced head coach to help correct the path of a franchise that has struggled to identify a reliable backup for Luck at quarterback.

In the post-Luck era, the Colts have compiled a record of 31-34 and have made the playoffs once, but have been victorious in none of those games.1

During his 11 years as a coach in the NFL, Steichen, now 37 years old, has been responsible for the development of a couple of prominent young quarterbacks.

Before taking the offensive coordinator position in Philadelphia, Steichen was the offensive coordinator for the Chargers attack in 2020, the year that delivered Justin Herbert’s remarkable rookie season.

The all-time rookie records for touchdown passes (31), completions (396) and passing yards per game (289.1) were all set by Herbert.

Steichen then played an important role in the development of another young quarterback the following season in Philadelphia.

He assisted in guiding Jalen Hurts to 3,928 offensive yards (3,144 passing, 784 rushing) and in building the league’s No. 1 rushing offense, which led to the team earning a playoff berth in 2021 despite having a first-year starting quarterback and a rookie head coach.

Shane Steichen: Net Worth 2023

When Shane Steichen arrived in Indianapolis, he brought with him a net worth of $5 million.2 When compared to a great number of the NFL’s stars, this player’s net worth is on the lower end of the spectrum in the National Football League.

Although the specifics of the contract have not been made public, one can glean information about it from the past by looking for context clues.

Frank Reich, who served as general manager before Steichen, made $9 million a year with the team. The head coach will continue to get his full compensation until the end of his contract in 2026, despite the fact that he was fired.

One has a reasonable basis for making the assumption that a deal of a comparable nature is currently being negotiated or has already been struck behind closed doors.

With the Colts, the head coach, who is 37 years old, is making his first appearance at the highest level.

Steichen still has more than a decade of experience coaching players in the league at various positions, despite the fact that he has never served as a head coach for any team in the league.
