Bhumi Pednekar: Parents

Bhumi Pednekar has always wanted to work as an actress. She does not, however, come from a family with a history in the film industry. She was up in extreme poverty and has always valued and avoided abusing things. She came from a normal middle-class Indian family, where acting is considered an unorthodox vocation.

She eventually worked up the confidence to tell her parents that she wanted to be an actor. They were initially hesitant, but eventually went in and obtained a loan for the sum of INR 13 lakhs to enrol in Mumbai’s Whistling Woods International Institute.

Despite being a stellar student, she was dismissed from the school due to her poor attendance. She was terrified of how she would pay back the money, so she made the decision to join Yash Raj Pictures as an assistant casting director. By doing so, she was able to pay back the loan and get connected to the film industry.

Bhumi Pednekar’s father Satish went away after a long battle with oral cancer just as things were beginning to go well for her and she was building a respectable career for herself as an assistant director. When her father passed away, Bhumi was just 18 years old, and she was left with full financial responsibility.

In order to survive in Bombay and support her sister Samiksha Pednekar’s college education, she had to work ten times as hard. When she signed her debut movie, Dum Laga Ke Haisha, her life changed drastically, and she hasn’t looked back since.
