Mickelson is not seriously ill, but he suffers from psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, which create swollen, stiff, and painful joints. Psoriasis causes flaky patches of skin that form scales, while psoriatic arthritis causes swollen, stiff, and painful joints.

The golfer lives with it because it is incurable, but he is undergoing therapies to alleviate the discomfort; aside from that, he has no other health conditions that could endanger his life or cost him his profession; he is 52 and still plays golf.

Phil is also competing in the US Open at the Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he had an 8-over 78 on Thursday. It will end on June 19, 2022, and the winner will be awarded $17.5 million.

Phil Mickelson Illness: What Does He Suffer?

Phil has psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, an incurable skin disease that can develop over time and that no medication can cure.

The professional golfer was diagnosed with the ailment in 2010 after experiencing pain in his right ankle, followed by aches in his fingers and wrists, just before the U.S. Open.

Because his condition was serious, his rheumatologist quickly started him on one of the relatively new biologic response modifying medications, ‘Enbrel,’ according to a source. It helped him control his arthritis and lowered his pain and incapacity, allowing him to continue playing, and he was soon back on the professional golf course.

Mickelson has psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, which he has managed to treat with prescription drugs and a vegetarian diet, but he will have to live with the disease for the rest of his life.

It has harmed his career since he loses focus during rounds, feels tired, and finds it difficult to practice, envision, or see a shot; yet, the 52-year-old has decided not to retire due to psoriatic arthritis.

In addition, he recently won the PGA Championship 2021, however he has indicated that he would not compete in the 2022 PGA Championship in order to spend more time with his family.
