Career Of Petr Sykora

Sykora played in the Czechoslovak Extraliga and the IHL before being drafted. At 17 years and 71 days, Sykora became the IHL’s youngest player ever as a Cleveland Lumberjack.

The New Jersey Devils selected Sykora in the first round, 18th overall, in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. Only Jarome Iginla has scored more points in that draught class.

Sykora began his NHL career in 1995-96 with New Jersey, where he scored 42 points and was named NHL Rookie of the Month for December. His career would take off in his fourth NHL season, when he recorded a career-high 72 points, still the second highest total of his career.

He was a member of the Devils’ effective A-line, along with Patrik Eliá and Jason Arnott, that helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2000. International Career Of Petr Sykora

During the NHL lockout, Sykora played for Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Russian Super League, where he scored 31 points in 45 games. As NHL play resumed in 2005-06, Sykora requested to be traded from Anaheim, and on January 9, 2006, Sykora was acquired by the New York Rangers in exchange for young defenseman Maxim Kondratiev and the return of a fourth-round draught pick that the Rangers had previously traded to Anaheim.

After finishing the season with the Rangers, it was announced on July 7, 2006, that Sykora would not return, and he was later signed to a one-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers. On a line with fellow countryman Ales Hemsky, Sykora maintained his previous season’s scoring output with 53 points.

However, the Penguins were unable to avoid elimination for the second time in a row and were defeated by Detroit in the Stanley Cup final. This was Sykora’s fourth appearance in a Stanley Cup final.

Sykora scored his eighth, ninth, and tenth goals of the season against the New York Islanders at Mellon Arena on December 11, 2008. Sykora had previously set the NHL record for most two-goal games without a hat trick with 38 in his career.

Also, Sykora scored his 300th NHL goal on April 7, 2009, in a 6-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Sykora won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins on June 12, 2009. He became a free agent on July 1. In 2009-10, he was signed by the Minnesota Wild and then assigned to the AHL’s Houston Aeros.
