19th Shanghai International Film Festival
- Filmmaker Raam Reddy’s Kannada film Thithi bagged the top awards at the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival on June 20, 2016.
- Thithi won the Best Film and Best Script Writers in the Asia New Talent Awards at the festival in Shanghai.
- Other films nominated in the Best I Film Category were One Night Only, Ham’s Miso Soup, Land of the Little People and Detective Chinatown.
- Thithi is a light-hearted story about three generations of men reacting to the death of the family’s 101-year-old patriarch.
- Kerala Tourism bagged 4 awards at FilntAT, one of the biggest international flint festivals dedicated to tourism, art and ecology, In Poland on June 18, 2016.
- The tourism board’s ad film titled, The Great Backwaters of Kerala won the award for Best Editing. This film portrays the life in and around the backwaters in a beautiful manner.
Pen Pinter Prize 2016
- The Canadian novelist and poet Margaret Atwood won Pen Pinter Prize 2016 for her work championing environmental causes on June 15, 2016.
- The award was established in 2009 in memory of Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter.
- It goes jointly to a British, Irish or Commonwealth writer seen as sharing Pinter’s ‘unflinching, unswerving’ social gaze and to an international writer who has faced persecution.
- She is known for The Handmaid’s Tale and MaddAddam novels.
