On January 6, 1960, Azinger was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts, to a father named Ralph, who had served as a navigator in the United States Air Force before transitioning into the business world.

Azinger served as the top golf analyst for ESPN and ABC Sports from 2005 through 2015.
He left those positions in 2015. In the beginning, he worked as an analyst alongside Nick Faldo, a former opponent of his from the Ryder Cup and Open Championship.
