Mindy Morgenstern: Who Murdered Her?

The murder of Mindy Morgenstern remains one of the most intriguing and heartbreaking crimes in recent history. Despite a comprehensive investigation by the police and extensive media coverage, the case remains unsolved, leaving behind numerous unanswered questions. This article will take a closer look at the circumstances surrounding Mindy’s murder, the suspects involved, and the evidence gathered.

The Discovery of Mindy’s Body

On June 15th, 2009, Mindy Morgenstern was found dead in her Fargo, North Dakota, apartment. The authorities were immediately called to the scene, and an investigation was launched to determine the cause of death and identify the person responsible. Despite an initial investigation, the authorities could not find any substantial leads or evidence, leaving them with more questions than answers.

The First Break in the Case: A Potent Smell of Pine-Sol

The investigation into Mindy’s murder was difficult, with the police struggling to find useful leads. However, they eventually obtained their first significant break in the case when they spoke with Mindy’s neighbors. They learned that Moe Gibbs, a corrections officer at the Barnes County Jail, lived in the same building as Mindy. Moe admitted that he had detected a potent smell of Pine-Sol close to the time of Mindy’s murder, which caused the police to develop a great deal of suspicion.

The First Suspect: Moe Gibbs

Despite the strong suspicion surrounding Moe Gibbs, the authorities could not link him to the crime despite having very little evidence. However, the scenario changed dramatically once the forensics lab had finished its testing on the DNA sample that had been obtained from the crime scene. The sample matched Moe and the offender in an unrelated rape case in Fargo, North Dakota, in 2004, and has never been solved.

When questioned about either incident, Moe maintained his innocence and denied involvement. However, additional research revealed that he had been imprisoned from 1994 to 1998 for an unrelated attempt at premeditated murder case under the name Glen Dale Morgan Jr. This, in conjunction with the forensic evidence, led to Moe’s arrest and shortly after that, a few female inmates at the Barnes County Jail also accused him of sexually abusing them. This ultimately led to Moe’s conviction.1/
