Maggie Murdaugh’s sister, the late Margaret Kennedy Branstetter, was only responsible for one misdeed, and she was also aware of her own net worth
She was a humble barber’s granddaughter from rural Kentucky who married one of the wealthiest men in South Carolina and travelled in private jets. He was one of the richest men in South Carolina.
Maggie Murdaugh had a well-deserved reputation for doting on her two kids.
According to all accounts, Buster, her oldest child, was a great deal more easygoing and socially proficient than Paul, her son, who was 22 years old when his mother, 52, and he were shot to death at the family hunting lodge in rural Colleton County last June. Buster was the oldest of her children.
The now-famous killings, which have been reported on by media outlets all over the world, are still being investigated as unsolved murders.
In February of 2019, charges of murder were brought against Paul for the death of Mallory Beach. According to Paul’s friends, when he started drinking and going by the moniker “Timmy,” he transformed into a completely different and more destructive person.
But, a family member revealed to The Post that Paul already presented difficulties when he was a little boy. From when he was 11 years old, he used foul language towards his carers and the other people in his environment.

Maggie Murdaugh: Wife of Alex Murdaugh
A Traditional Mother Whose Children Mean The World To Her Buster’s oldest son’s former teacher, Bubba Mixson, asserted that she shouldn’t be held accountable for excessively spoiling her children because she was a traditional homemaker.
He stated that because she was a traditional homemaker, she shouldn’t be held accountable for her actions.
But in the half a year that has passed since the murders, Maggie’s story has been obscured by the alleged illegal and civil transgressions committed by her widower Alex Murdaugh, who is still being investigated as a “person of interest.”
Maggie Murdaugh: Who Is She?
Maggie Murdaugh, also known as Margaret Kennedy Branstetter, was born in Nashville to her parents, Terry and Kennedy Branstetter. Maggie’s bond with both of her parents was quite strong.1
On the other hand, since their daughter and grandson have both passed away, her parents have not mentioned either of them.
Lisa Hineman-Moore, who was friends with Maggie and ran track with her at Unionville High in Pennsylvania from 1984 to 1986 and described Maggie’s parents as “very conventional,” said that Maggie’s parents were “quite conservative.”
Hineman-Moore said that the friendship between Maggie and Lisa came to an unfortunate end on account of the fact that Maggie “was always thin” and occasionally made fun of Lisa’s excessive weight.
On June 7, 2021, Maggie Murdaugh and her younger son Paul were both gunned down and died. Terry and Kennedy are Murdaugh’s parents, and they currently reside in the state of North Carolina.
Marian Proctor, Maggie Murdaugh’s sister, has been called as a witness in the continuing trial of Alex. She has lately offered some interesting new information regarding Alex’s marriage, and she is one of the witnesses who will be called. Maggie Murdaugh was estimated to have a total net worth of $4,160,0000 in real estate interests at the time of her passing.
Maggie And Alex: Marriage
Maggie attended the University of South Carolina in the late 1980s, and it was then that she became acquainted with Alex “Alec” Murdaugh, who was a year older than she was.2
Maggie’s very first serious commitment in a relationship was with him. Yet, a friend of hers asserted that her decision to marry him came with a price tag attached to it.
Residents attest to the fact that she was a pretty level-headed individual. She was the only member of the family to visit Gloria Satterfield while she was in the hospital, as she was passing away. She was the housekeeper for the family.
The member of the family noted that he was always surprised by how “understated” Alex and Maggie’s home in Hampton, South Carolina was. Before the murders, the Murdaughs moved out of that house and into a hunting lodge near Edisto Beach. They split their time between the two locations.
According to two individuals who have knowledge of the situation, Maggie and Alex were at best leading separate lives (she lived in a home close to Edisto Beach, whereas Alex resided at the hunting lodge in Islandton), and their relationship had been deteriorating for some time. Both of these individuals have knowledge of the situation.
Maggie Murdaugh: Attorney
Maggie’s relatives and friends say that even though she was leaving her husband, who had a 20-year opiate addiction and financial troubles, she maintained a positive attitude and kept her sense of humour throughout the ordeal.3
Maria Cordero, a close friend of Maggie’s, is appalled by recent allegations in the media which imply that the Murdaugh marriage was troubled and which state that Maggie had purportedly consulted with a divorce attorney approximately six weeks before her death.
Cordero informed them that none of the claims they were making were true. “And in any case, it has nothing to do with you,” she said.
According to a second source with knowledge of the investigation, the authorities sought all over the state for any divorce lawyers who might have had a visit from Maggie Murdaugh but were unable to locate any of them. This source also stated that the authorities had come up empty-handed.
State Senator Dick Harpootlian, one of Alex Murdaugh’s two attorneys, strongly denies the rumours that his client’s marriage was in difficulty. The rumour was spread by a third party.
He admitted that when he was representing Paul Murdaugh in the boat crash case over the course of 18 months, he regularly witnessed Alex and Maggie together. The case involved a collision between two boats.
Maggie Murdaugh: Death
On the evening of June 7, 2021, it is said that Alex Murdaugh made contact with his wife Maggie and asked her to meet him at the family’s 1,770-acre estate located in the rural community of Islandton, South Carolina.
Alex reportedly informed Maggie that his father, Randolph Murdaugh III, who is 81 years old, was in poor condition and that she wanted to meet him before he passed away. This information comes from a law enforcement source who is close to the inquiry.
Maggie was living at the family’s beach house on Edisto Island, which is approximately an hour away from the family’s estate, when it was reported that she and Alex had reached a hard patch in their marriage.
Maggie first declined to meet Alex at the family home, recommending that they meet instead at the hospital, according to the law enforcement source who spoke to PEOPLE about the matter. In the end, she gave her agreement to meet at the property, and she planned to accompany Alex to the hospital in the car of her own choosing.
Maggie Murdaugh: Family
According to a source within law enforcement, Maggie is said to have texted a friend while she was on her way to the residence and expressed concern that something about her husband’s behaviour seemed “fishy.” Maggie allegedly wrote in a text message to her pal, “He’s up to something.”
The investigators with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) have not disclosed what evidence they have, but a law enforcement source tells PEOPLE that blood spatter allegedly found on Alex Murdaugh’s clothes indicates he was at the scene of the murder at the time of the murder, and not visiting his father at the hospital as he later claimed to have been doing.
The attorneys for Murdaugh have not responded to inquiries for comment from PEOPLE, but they have issued a statement in which they defend his innocence.
According to the statement written by his attorneys, “Alex wants his family, friends, and everyone else to know that he did not have anything to do with the killings of Maggie and Paul.” “He loved them more than anything else in the entire universe.”
In addition to the counts of murder, Murdaugh is currently being investigated for more than 85 separate criminal offences and has been disbarred from the practise of law.

- He is currently facing trial on the criminal charges that were brought against him in connection with the alleged suicide-for-hire plot that went awry.

- It is currently unknown whether or not there will be an increase in the bond amount due to the murder charges.
