Playing Career

From 2009 to 2013, Binnington was a member of the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Binnington had a fantastic 2010-11 OHL season, going 27-12-5 in 46 games.

Binnington led the Attack to the J. Ross Robertson Cup final against the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in the 2011 OHL Playoffs, defeating the London Knights, Plymouth Whalers, and Windsor Spitfires.

The Attack won the seven-game series, with Jarrod Maidens scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. As OHL champions, the Owen Sound Attack also competed in the 2011 Memorial Cup tournament.

Professional Career

The St. Louis Blues selected him with the 88th overall pick in the third round as the OHL’s top 2011 NHL Entry Draft eligible goaltender (NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s Final Rankings). On May 29, 2012, Binnington signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Blues. After appearing in one AHL game in 2011-12, he returned to Owen Sound for the majority of the season and again in 2012-13.

Binnington was called up from the Kalamazoo Wings of the East Coast Hockey League under emergency conditions on November 26, 2014, following the injury to Blues goaltender Brian Elliott.

On January 14, 2016, he made his NHL debut, coming in to relieve starter Elliott in a 4-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Binnington signed a one-year, two-way contract with the St. Louis Blues on July 15, 2016.

Binnington was reassigned on loan to the Providence Bruins on October 9, 2017, with the Blues lacking an AHL affiliate for the 2017-18 season. During the 2017-18 season, he had 17 wins in 28 games for the Bruins but was not recalled to the NHL. Along with teammate Austin Czarnik, he was named to the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic.

Binnington’s 23rd win of the season came on April 4, 2019, in a 7-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers, a record for a Blues rookie goaltender.

Sydney and Jordan Have A Special Bond
