Biography Of Jamey Chadwell
Jamey Chadwell (born January 10, 1977) is a former player and head coach for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. He also served as interim head coach during the 2017 season while permanent head coach Joe Moglia was on medical leave.
On January 18, 2019, he was named Head Coach of CCU. Chadwell previously served as the head coach of the Charleston Southern Buccaneers from 2013 to 2016, the North Greenville Crusaders from 2009 to 2011, and the Delta State Statesmen for one season (2012).
He grew up in Tennessee and played quarterback at East Tennessee State University from 1995 to 1999. He began his coaching career at East Tennessee State in 2000 before moving on to Charleston Southern University as an assistant in 2004. After leading his team to an 11-1 record in 2020, he won several coach of the year awards.
Professional Career Of Jamey Chadwell
Chadwell began his coaching career as an offensive assistant at East Tennessee State in the 2000 season. He also served as quarterback coach before leaving the team at the end of the 2003 season. In 2004, the Charleston Southern Buccaneers hired Chandwell as offensive coordinator. He also served as the team’s running back coach until the end of the 2008 season.
On February 6, 2009, Chadwell accepted his first head coaching position at North Greenville University. He compiled a 20-14 overall record as the head coach during his tenure (20 wins and 14 losses). Chadwell was the team’s head coach until the end of the 2011 season.
On January 2, 2012, Delta State hired Chadwell to replace Ron Roberts as the Statesmen’s head coach. Chadwell had a 7-3 record and resigned on January 17, 2013, to accept an offer from Charleston Southern as their third head coach. He stayed with the team until the end of the 2016 season.
On January 8, 2017, Coastal Carolina named Chadwell as their new offensive coordinator. During Moglia’s sick leave, he also served as interim head coach. Moglia took over as offensive coordinator on January 5th, while Chadwell remained as defensive coordinator. Chadwell officially took over as head coach on January 18, 2019. He was named the 2020 AP College Coach of the Year.
Chadwell signed a contract extension on February 14, 2020, with a base salary of $850,000. The contract also includes a $50,000 salary increase each season until the end of the 2027 season. Chadwell is the Sun Belt Conference’s second-highest-paid coach, trailing only Billy Napier.
Coaching Career
Chadwell began his coaching career at his alma mater, East Tennessee State, in 2000, after his playing career ended. He remained with the Buccaneers as an offensive assistant until the 2003 season, when he left to take a position at Charleston Southern.
Chadwell was hired as the head coach of North Greenville University on February 6, 2009, after serving as an assistant offensive coach with the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. Chadwell had an overall record of 20 wins and 14 losses with the Crusaders during his three-year tenure (20–14).
Following the 2011 season, he also led the Crusaders to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II football playoffs. In the playoffs, Chadwell led the Crusaders to the quarterfinals, where they were defeated by Delta State 28-23.
Chadwell was hired as Delta State’s head coach on January 2, 2012, succeeding Ron Roberts. On January 17, 2013, Chadwell resigned as head coach of the Statesmen after only one season in order to take the same position at Charleston Southern. During his one season at Delta State, he had three wins and seven losses.
Chadwell was officially introduced as Charleston Southern’s third head coach on January 17, 2013.

Chadwell was named Coastal Carolina’s new offensive coordinator on January 8, 2017.
Chadwell was named interim head coach for Coastal Carolina on July 28, 2017, after head coach Joe Moglia took a medical leave of absence. On January 5, 2018, the school announced that Moglia had been medically cleared to return to full-time coaching and would take over as head coach again.
The NCAA issued a detailed report in 2018 regarding numerous NCAA violations that occurred during Chadwell’s tenure as CSU head football coach. The violations ranged from using multiple ineligible players to using scholarship funds to buy electronics and jewellery at the campus bookstore.
Finally, the NCAA sanctioned 18 victories from the 2014 and 2015 seasons, as well as the 2015 Big South Championship. Three victories over crosstown rival The Citadel were also vacated because CSU used ineligible players.
Chadwell was officially introduced as Coastal Carolina’s third head coach on January 18, 2019.

Jamey Chadwell Is The Father Of Three Children
Solmaz and Jamey are the parents of three children, one son and two daughters.
Jameson is the oldest son, and Sahel and Soraya are the younger daughters.
In 2009, the Chadwells welcomed their first child, a baby boy. Jameson is 13 years old and celebrates his birthday every July 30th.
Furthermore, they had their daughter Sahel in 2013, when their son was almost four. Sahel turned nine on January 13, 2022, and her 14th birthday is only a month later.
Similarly, the coach’s partner gave birth to their youngest child, Soraya, in 2014, and she will turn eight on November 21, 2022.
Soraya participates in gymnastics, cheerleading, and dancing. Sahel plays soccer, and Jameson, among other sports, plays baseball and football. Furthermore, because Somaz grew up speaking Farsi at home, she has passed on some of the cultures to her children and taught them the language from an early age.
