India Ranked 60th in Inclusive Development Index
- India ranked 60th among 79 developing economies, below neighboring China and Pakistan, in the inclusive development index, according to a WEF report on January 17, 2017.
- According to WEF’s ‘Inclusive Growth and Development Report 2017’, most countries are missing important opportunities to raise economic growth and reduce inequality at the same time because the growth model and measurement tools that have guided policymakers for decades require significant readjustment.
- The Inclusive Development Index (IDI) is based on 12 performance indicators. In order to provide a more complete measure of economic development than GDP growth alone, the index has three pillars — Growth and Development, Inclusion and Intergenerational Equity, and Sustainability.
- Lithuania tops the list of 79 developing economies that also features Azerbaijan and Hungary at second and third positions, respectively.
- While India is placed at the 60th spot, many of the neighbouring nations are ahead in the rankings. China is ranked at the I5th position, Nepal (27th), Bangladesh (36th) and Pakistan (52nd).
- Two BRIC nations, Russia and Brazil, are at 13th and 30th places, respectively.
- Others in the top ten are Poland (4th), Romania (5th), Uruguay (6th), Latvia (7th), Panama (8th), Costa Rica (9th) and Chile (10th).
Germany Top Global Passport Index, India Ranked 78th
- The Passport Index 2017, ranked countries based on the number of nations their citizens can visit without a visa or on arrival on January 18, 2017.
- India ranked a low 78th position. Germany stands at the top with a visa-free score of 157 while Singapore overtakes South Korea and becomes the highest ranked Asian passport with a visa-free score of 156.
- Afghanistan’s is the least powerful passport with a visa-free score of just 23.
- The latest edition of the world’s most popular Arton Capital’s global ranking ‘Passport Index’ is based on cross-border access of national passports.
India Ranked 92nd on Global Talent Competitiveness
- India slipped 3 places to 92nd rank on the global index of talent competitiveness that measures how countries grow, attract and retain talent, a list topped by Switzerland on January 17, 2017.
- India’s ranking is worst among the five BRICS countries. While, China was ranked at the 54th place, Russian Federation was placed at 56th, followed by South Africa at 67th and Brazil at 81st.
- Switzerland topped the overall index, followed by Singapore and the United Kingdom in second and third places respectively, in the list released by INSEAD Produced in partnership with The Adecco Group and the Human Capital Leadership Institute of Singapore (HCLI).
- Others in the top 10 include the USA (4th), Sweden (5th), Australia (6th), Luxembourg (7th), Denmark (8th), Finland (9th) and Norway (10th).

World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2017 Held
- Chinese President Xi Jinping will be the guest Speaker at the opening sessions of this year’s annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos (Switzerland) on January 20, 2017.
- Responsive Leadership is the theme of 2017’s Annual Meeting — a call for leaders to renew systems that have supported international cooperation in the past.
- The World Economic Forum (WEF) is a Swiss non-profit foundation, based in Cologny (Geneva). Recognised by the Swiss authorities as an international body.
- Its mission is cited as “committed to improving the State of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas”.
