India and Poland Signed Agreement on Cooperation in Agriculture and Allied Sectors
- The Union government approved for signing of an agreement between India and Poland on cooperation in the field of agriculture and allied sectors on February22,
- The agreement covers various activities in the field of agriculture and allied sector including exchange of information on the current situation in agriculture, the phytosanitary conditions of crops, threats posed by harmful organisms and the threats posed by animal infectious diseases.
- It also covers the participation in fairs, exhibitions, seminars and conferences related to agriculture and agri-food processing; undertaking and developing joint, economic initiatives including the support or agrifood trade between the states of the Contracting Parties.
- The agreement provides for constitution of a Joint Working Group (JWG) comprising of representatives from both countries. The JWG will prepare plans of cooperation and to provide solutions to the problems arising during the implementation of the Agreement.
India and China to Hold Strategic Dialogue to Boost Bilateral Ties
- China and India held their upgraded strategic dialogue to shore-up bilateral ties amid hectic parleys to resolve differences over Beijing’s reluctance to support India’s NSG bid as well as a UN banned on JeM Chief Masood Azhar on February 21, 2017.
- The two countries are members of G-20. Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), BRICS.and the East Asia Summit and this will allow us to find more common ground on more issues.
- The strategic dialogue was upgraded during Chinese Foreign Minister Yi’s visit to New Delhi last year. China has deputed Zhang, also the head of the influential Communist Party of China (CPC) Committee of the Chin ese Foreign Ministry’to co-chair the talks.
India and Rwanda Signed MoUs in Innovation, Aviation, Visa Requirements
- India and Rwanda signed three MoUs in innovation, aviation sectors and visa requirements here during Vice-President Hamid Ansari’s visit to the East African country on February 20, 2017.
- In innovation, the two countries will set-up an entrepreneurship development centre in Kigali while in aviation, Rwanda Air will start services to India in coming months and both countries will mutually exempt visa requirements.
India Joined UN Network to Half Maternal, Newborn Deaths
- India is among nine countries that will be part of a global health network focused on improving the quality of care for new mothers and babies and strengthen national efforts to end preventable deaths of pregnant women and newborns by 2030 on February 14, 2017.
- The nine countries are India, Bangladesh, A Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda. Through the new ‘Network for Improving Quality of Care for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health’, supported by World Health Organisation (WHO), UN International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other partners, the countries will work to improve the quality of care mothers and babies receive in their health facilities.
- The Network aims to strengthen national efforts to end preventable deaths by 2030, as envisioned by the Every Woman Every Child Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Adolescents’ Health.
