India and Sweden Enhanced Cooperation in Energy Sector
- India and Sweden agreed to enhance collaboration in energy sector with special focus on areas such as waste-to-energy, hydropower, smart metering and solar energy, on November 3, 2016.
- The ministerial delegation participated in three round tables on green financing and investment, smart grid and energy solutions, smart cities, electro mobility and waste to energy and energy efficient mining and mine automation optimisation.

India Ranked 102nd on Enabling Cross Border Trade WEF
- India improved its ranking by four places to 102nd position among 136 economies in terms of enabling cross border trade, with Singapore i leading the list, the WEF on November 29, 2016. While, India’s position has jumped four slots to 102, that of South Africa has j improved three places to 55 while that of China stood at 61 compared with the previous ranking of 63.
- Brazil’s ranking has slipped to 110 from the earlier 97 while that of Russia dropped to 111 from the 105th position. The ‘Global Enabling Trade Report 2016’ (published by WEF and the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation) assesses the performance of 136 economies by way of Enabling Trade Index.

International Conference on Brucellossis Held
- On November 18, 2016, the Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences YS Chowdary, called for villagers to be trained to handle animal diseases like Brucellosis on a cooperative basis after inaugurating International Research Conference he expressed concern that Brucellosis is endemic in India and that it could spread to humans.
- Brucellosis is a dreadful disease caused by the genus of the bacteria j known as Brucella infecting various species of Brucella cows, buffalos, sheep, goats, deer, pigs, dogs and other animals as well as humans.
- Human become infected by coming in contact with animals or animal product like meat and milk contaminated with these bacteria. Dairy man, veterinarians, butchers and other animal handlers are exposed to high risk of brucellosis infection.
Third World Internet Conference Held in China
- The third World Internet Conference was held in Wuzhen, China from November 16 to 18, 2016. The town of Wuzhen is well-known for its extensive network of canals.
- Drawing on traditional water-town architecture, prize-winning architect Wang Shu designed the imposing Wuzhen Internet International Convention Center in keeping with its surroundings.
- The CPC Central Committee acknowledged that the country needs breakthroughs in high-performance computing, mobile communication, quantum communication, core chips and operating systems.
High Level Meeting of Interior Ministers of the Indian Ocean Region to Counter Drug Trafficking in Sri Lanka
- The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir led the Indian delegation to the High Level Meeting of Interior Ministers of the Indian Ocean Region to counter Drug Trafficking, in Colombo, Sri Lanka on October 29, 2016.
- Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said that the illicit funds being generated from the sale of drugs are being utilised for funding terrorist activities and illegal arms trade. The problem of Narco-terrorism is assuming gigantic proportions.
- Presence of Naval Forces to counter the threat of terrorism in the Indian Ocean Region has resulted in significant seizures of Heroin consignments over the last two years. The efforts of the Indian Coast Guard, the Sri Lankan Navy and the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) have been especially noteworthy in this regard.
