Early Years
Evgeni Vladimirovich Malkin was born in Magnitogorsk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union, on July 31, 1986, to parents Vladimir and Natalia Malkin.
He joined an organised hockey league at the age of three and was coached by his father, who had played in the youth system.
Malkin’s experiences with the Metallurg Magnitogorsk hockey programme laid the groundwork for his professional ice hockey career.
Career
Malkin made his Russian Superleague debut at the age of 17 in 2003, followed by his international debut for Russia at the 2003 U-18 World Championships.
By 2006, he had been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he played alongside Sidney Crosby and set a record by scoring a goal in each of his first six games.
In 2009, he helped the Pittsburgh Penguins win the Stanley Cup, with Malkin’s 36 total playoff points being the most since Wayne Gretzky’s 40 in 1993.
