Kulikov led all QMJHL defencemen with 62 points in 57 games in his lone season with Drummondville, and he won a slew of post-season awards, including the Emile Bouchard Trophy as QMJHL Defenceman of the Year, the Raymond Lagacé Trophy as Defensive Rookie of the Year, and the Mike Bossy Trophy as the League’s top professional prospect.

Following his first season with the Voltigeurs, Kulikov was picked 14th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, and was later signed to a professional contract with the team on September 29, 2009.
Despite his age, Kulikov played in 68 games for Florida during his debut season in 2009-10, demonstrating great levels of talent and confidence. Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon stated that the Panthers organisation has great hopes for Kulikov’s future.
Kulikov signed a three-year, $13 million contract deal with the Panthers on July 18, 2014, with an annual salary of $4.3 million.
Kulikov was sold to the Buffalo Sabres on June 25, 2016, along with the 33rd overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, in exchange for defenseman Mark Pysyk and draught picks 38 and 89.
