David Deron Haye was born in London’s Bermondsey area on October 13, 1980, to an English mother and a Jamaican father.
David attended Bacon’s College in Rotherhithe after spending the majority of his youth in Bermondsey.
Haye fought in the light-heavyweight division at the World Amateur Championship in Houston, Texas, in 1999, when he was 18 years old.
He narrowly qualified for the 2000 Sydney Olympics, but was defeated early in the competition by Michael Simms.

In 2002, David Haye began his career as a cruiserweight, defeating Tony Booth in a contest at York Hall in London.
Haye won the English cruiserweight title in 2003 and remained undefeated until 2004, when he was defeated for the first time by Carl Thompson.
Following his defeat, Haye went on to win the European cruiserweight championship in 2005 and the WBA Unified World Cruiserweight Championship in 2008.
Haye won the WBA heavyweight title in 2009, defeating Nikolai Valuev.
