Playing career

Amateur

After finishing his high school career at Walled Lake Northern High School in Commerce Township, Michigan, Connor Hellebuyck played one season of junior hockey for the Odessa Jackalopes. The Odessa Jackalopes were a franchise that had been a minor league affiliate of the New York Islanders, but they had recently moved to junior hockey as part of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). While playing for Odessa, Hellebuyck rose from being a virtually unknown player to a top prospect. As a result, the Winnipeg Jets selected him in the next year’s draught after his season with Odessa.

Hellebuyck was awarded a scholarship to play for the UMass Lowell River Hawks in the NCAA Men’s Division I Hockey East Conference. International play

The United States national ice hockey team has selected Hellebuyck to compete in the 2015 Men’s World Ice Hockey Championships. Hellebuyck would be the reason why the United States of America finished in third place in the tournament.
