Combined Defense Service CDS Syllabus and Exam Pattern 

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is going to conducts Combined Defense Services (CDS) Examination for recruitment of various vacancies under Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers Training Academy. The CDS syllabus details is given below. Those who want to choose their career in Defense sector can apply for this position. Why to wait when you have all the details about the exam just prepare hard and study well to crack the exam.

CDS Exam Details 

Mode:  Exam will be of offline mode.

Selection Basis: Selection will be done on the basis of the written and the interview test.

This test comes under UPSC.

UPSC release the notification twice in a year for the exam.

CDS Exam Pattern :

Question Booklet There will be four sets of question booklet namely A,B, C and D. Candidates will get question booklet randomly
Number of questions 340 MCQs for – IMA, INA and AFA

240 MCQs for – OTA

 

 

Distribution of questions

·         Maths:  100*

·         General Knowledge: 120

·         English: 120

*Maths is not applicable for candidates applied for OTA

 

 

 

Marking Scheme

The maximum marks allotted to the written examination and to the interviews will be equal for each course i.e. the maximum marks allotted to the written examination and to the interviews will be 300, 300, 300 and 200 each for admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers’ Training Academy respectively
Negative Marking ·         For each incorrect response one-third (1/3) marks will be deducted

·         More than one response will be treated as wrong answer and 1/3rd mark will be deducted

·         If a question left blank there will be no marks and penalty will be given to candidates

 

CDS Exam Syllabus :

The combined defense service covers three parts and the syllabus that comes in the exam has been explained below in details

For English :

There will be English exam also to test the understanding of English to the candidate.

General Knowledge :

In General Knowledge portion question will cover from Current affairs and ongoing events. The Paper will also include questions on History of India and Geography of a nature which Candidate should be able to answer without special study.

For Mathematics :

Certain topics will be covered in mathematics to test the mental ability of the candidate. The following topics will be asked , they  are listed below :

  • Arithmetic
  • Geometry
  • Algebra
  • Trigonometry
  • Menstruation
  • Statistics

After clearing all the written exam there comes the result for the written exam, those who clears the exam are called for interview test.

INTELLIGENCE AND PERSONALITY TEST for CDS Exam

The SSB procedure consists of two stage Selection process – stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear for stage II. The details are:-

(a) Stage I comprises of Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests are Picture Perception* Description Test (PP&DT). The candidates will be shortlisted based on combination of performance in OIR Test and PP&DT.

(b) Stage II Comprises of Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and the Conference. These tests are conducted over 4 days. The details of these tests are given on the website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.

The personality of a candidate is assessed by three different assessors viz.

The Interviewing Officer (IO), Group Testing Officer (GTO) and the Psychologist.

There are no separate weight age for each test.

After passing the exam the candidate get selected and he/she will be further sent to their training institutes after the verification of the documentations and all the necessary papers.
