“Hard to believe I still love this job as much as I did 30 years ago…maybe even more now that I truly understand how blessed I’ve been,” he captioned the photo.

Alan also tweets live updates from firefighter rescue operations, explaining the situation and escorting people to safety. He is also vocal regarding the rights of firemen.

Alan observes that, despite having witnessed multiple economic cycles during his more than 30 years in the fire department, the fundamentals have remained constant.

Chief Arrollado spent the majority of his firefighting career working in busy homes. Nonetheless, he held positions of leadership in Local 145 and the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).

Alan is in his second term at SDCERS, having completed his first term in July 2015. His experience has taught him how to manage risk, which he considers to be the most eye-opening aspect of his journey to financial independence.
