In 2006, Anna walked down the aisle and exchanged wedding vows with Mark in Dr. Ray Wilson Park, promising to spend the rest of her life with her partner. Among the attendees were Martin Barras and fellow bikers Ryan Bayley and Sean Eadie.
However, after nine years of marriage, the couple called it quits, breaking the retired cyclist’s heart. She was so stunned, devastated, and emotionally wrecked that she considered quitting athletics.
She went on to say that getting back on track was more difficult than overcoming her mental issues in 2012 or recovering from a broken neck in 2008. However, the athlete’s friends, family, and coach’s unconditional love kept her going and helped her refocus on her goals.

Early years
Mark Chadwick was born in Münster, West Germany, on June 23, 1966. His father was an Army musician, and he spent his childhood going from posting to posting. Chadwick had wanted to be in a band since he was 12 years old, so his father got him a cheap acoustic guitar and a chord book after he spent a lot of time in front of the mirror with a tennis racket. Chadwick learned to play the guitar with the help of a chord book and The Beatles Complete.
In 1982, at the age of sixteen, and with no particular plan, he chose Brighton on a map and headed off. Chadwick began busking throughout Brighton and eventually formed his first band, The Soup Dragons. Chadwick had time to contemplate because the band wasn’t leaving. Chadwick decided to return to Brighton and establish his own band while on a trip to Dieppe.

The Levellers
Chadwick established the band after meeting future Levellers bassist Jeremy Cunningham in Brighton’s The Eagle pub. Chadwick went to The Eagle one night and ran into Cunningham, who was selling his bass instrument. [A better source is required] They decided to form a band after realising they had a lot in common, including a left-wing political viewpoint. They quickly added Charlie Heather on drums, Jon Sevink on fiddle, and Alan Miles to play harmonica, guitar, and mandolin. [A better source is required]
In 1989, the band produced two EPs on their own Hag label, which led to a deal with Musidisc. Their first album, A Weapon Called the Word, was published in 1990 and is one of the few albums known to have gone gold without ever charting. Miles left the band soon after its release and was swiftly replaced by Simon Friend, and the Levellers lineup of Chadwick, Cunningham, Sevink, Friend, and Heather remains to this day (with Matt Savage later joining on keyboards). Derek Green (the guy famous for signing the Sex Pistols) discovered the Levellers that year and signed them to independent label China Records.
The next year, they released Levelling The Land, which peaked at number 14 and went platinum. Despite not making the Top 40, the track “One Way” became a live favourite for years to come. People who were students or travellers in the early 1990s frequently consider Levelling The Land as an all-time masterpiece. [A better source is required] The band has seven Top 40 albums and 14 Top 40 singles to their credit.
Popularity
The Levellers headlined Glastonbury Festival in 1994, at the height of their popularity: they are thought to have performed to Glastonbury’s largest-ever crowd when they headlined the Pyramid stage on the Friday night in 1994. With no steel fence in place to keep gatecrashers out, it is estimated that up to 300,000 people saw the concert.
The Levellers’ most commercially successful album, Zeitgeist, was released in 1995 and debuted at No. 1 in the UK album charts. The album spawned two singles: “Hope Street,” which peaked at No. 12 in the UK singles chart, and “Fantasy,” which peaked at No. 16. The Levellers made their first performance on Top of the Pops with the tongue-in-cheek drinking anthem “Just the One,” which they performed while clad in tuxedos. “Just the One” was re-recorded specifically for the single release, with The Clash’s frontman and long-time Levellers hero Joe Strummer appearing on honky tonk piano. It peaked at No. 12 in the United Kingdom.
Among their most popular singles are “What a Beautiful Day,” which became Mouth to Mouth’s first single release and peaked at No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart, and “This Garden,” which peaked at No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart.
Festival
The Levellers decided to put on their own festival after becoming dissatisfied with the existing UK festival scene – having turned down £250,000 to headline the Reading Festival – and despising the commercialism that had evolved around festivals. This would be a return to earlier festivals enjoyed by the young Levellers, such as Elephant Fayre, as far as UK regulations will allow. The first effort, Green Blade Fayre, was scheduled for August 2002 at Bicton Park in East Devon, England. Despite the support of the appropriate authorities, an organised local populace was able to persuade the East Devon council to reject the licence application.
Nonetheless, the Levellers launched their own Beautiful Days Festival in 2003. The festival is now held annually in August at Escot Park near Fairmile in Devon, England. The Festival sells all 17,500 tickets each year and is not sponsored.
Individual Career
Chadwick has a solo career in addition to his work with The Levellers. After decades as The Levellers’ leader, Chadwick launched his solo career on September 6, 2010 with the publication of his album All The Pieces. This album is more folk than punk,[3] and comprises a collection of songs written by Chadwick over the years. The CD, produced by Sean Lakeman, is a collection of autobiographical experiences of life as a singer/songwriter. On The Fiddle Recordings released Moment, his second solo album, on June 15, 2014.
