In 2019, it was Abby’s turn to make her relationship official on Instagram, when she posted a photo of him arriving to watch her team win bronze at the HSBC Canada Women’s Sevens.
By autumn, the couple was certain that they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, and Alex proposed to the rugby player on one knee.
On October 10, 2019, Alex proposed to Abby in front of their families at Harbor Island in San Diego. However, a month after the wedding, the former rugby player noticed that something was wrong with his body.
After seeking medical attention, Alex discovered that he had testicular cancer. He travelled to the United Kingdom to be treated for the disease within a few weeks. Though he was told at the time that the disease had not spread, he discovered in 2020 that it had spread to his lymph nodes.
By Having Abby His Side, Alex Was Able To Recover Fast
Alex underwent nine weeks of chemotherapy after learning that her cancer had returned in 2020, and she began raising awareness for the disease. In 2021, he was fully recovered and resumed his commentary duties.
Abby has been by his side throughout the ordeal, and one day they may start their own family. The couple promoted and sold a T-shirt with the slogan “No Egos Just Amigos,” with all proceeds benefiting “The Team Corbs Testicular Cancer Research Grant.”
In 2020, she wrote an emotional post about how happy she is to be by his side and support him in every way. Alex announced last month that he had been cancer-free for two years.
