Absalom Breakspear is an essential figure in the Amazon Prime original series ‘Carnival Row,’ where he is portrayed by Jared Harris
In the first season, he serves as both the Chancellor of the Republic of The Burgue and the head of the Breakspear family, which is a powerful and wealthy clan in the country.

Absalom Breakspear (Carnival Row): Is He Died?
It is true that Absalom Breakspear has passed away. The Parliament of The Burgue is comprised of two parties, and Absalom serves as the leader of the Commonwealth Party in the first season.
Because of his belief that The Burgue ought to serve as a safe haven for fae fleeing the conflict that human empires have brought to their native countries, he supports the immigration of fae.
Ritter Longerbane (Ronan Vibert), the Leader of the Opposition and the head of the Hardtackers, is Absalom’s most prominent opponent.
The Hardtackers are a nationalist group that has garnered massive support among the human residents of the country due to the sharp rise in fae immigration. Longerbane is Absalom’s most prominent opponent.
It is strongly suggested that the Commonwealth Party was the one who initiated hostilities with the Pact, an adversarial empire that was formed by the coalition of the nations of Quivira and Cibola.
The conflict was finally brought to an end by the Hardtackers after The Burgue suffered a series of setbacks on the fae land of Tirnanoc.
Once Absalom brought the Commonwealth Party back to power, one of their first priorities was to ensure that their fae allies would have a secure place to live in The Burgue.
Absalom starts to have suspicions that Ritter is involved in the kidnapping of Jonah, so he orders his minions to catch and interrogate Ritter in order to settle the score.
In point of fact, Jonah’s disturbed mother Piety, played by Indira Varma, is the mastermind behind the entire plot in order to provide some guidance to her troubled son.
Piety comes from a family that has always been interested in fae magic, which is frowned upon by the Martyrite Faith, the dominant faith in the nation.
Since Piety was a youngster, she had had a close relationship with Haruspex Aoife Tsigani (Alice Krige), and she has always held the belief that the child predicted by the prophesy will be born to her and Absalom.
Absalom Breakspear (Carnival Row): What Happened with Him?
It turns out that Jonah’s biological father is Ritter, and this is due to the fact that Ritter courted Piety before Absalom. Piety, on the other hand, was fixated on the idea of bearing the child foretold in the prophesy.
As a result, she got married to Absalom and assumed that Jonah was his kid. It has come to light that Absalom was aware of the facts and that he never stopped loving Jonah as if he were his own son.
To cover up the fact that she was the one who was responsible for her son’s kidnapping, Piety is responsible for Ritter’s death through poisoning.
Before the first episode of the new season aired, Ritter’s daughter, Sophie (played by Caroline Ford), deceived Piety into thinking that a letter she had received was written by Absalom’s ex-lover, a fae singer by the name of Aisling Querelle. Sophie sent Piety the letter.
Blackmailing Piety with information on her son appears to be the purpose of “Aisling’s” letter. Piety was moved to take action as a result of this, and she fashioned an entity resembling a golem and naming it the Darkasher in order to go after everyone who had a hand in the birth of the child.
In the final episode of the first season, Absalom finally finds out about the existence of his son with Aisling, Rycroft “Philo” Philostrate (Orlando Bloom), whom he had been unaware of until that moment.
After learning how similar they are, Absalom makes a vow to Philo that he will rescue his fairy sweetheart, Vignette Stonemoss (played by Cara Delevingne), from the clutches of the police.
But, after he comes home, he is attacked by Quill, a dissatisfied former member of his house staff who, after getting dismissed, joins a faun cult and is tasked to kill the Chancellor.
Quill attacks him since the faun cult has given him the mission to kill the Chancellor. Absalom is able to escape the assault, but Piety kills him later by suffocating him with a pillow.
This happens when Absalom realises that his wife was the one who carried out the murders and he refuses to tell his wife anything about Philo.
Absalom Breakspear (Carnival Row): Is Jared Harris Leaving?
Given that his character has passed away, it is reasonable to assume that Harris has left the show “Carnival Row” and will not appear in the upcoming second and final season of the show.
This is especially likely given that prominent entertainment websites do not list him among the cast members of the second season. During an interview with Screen Rant, Harris explained that his character “is sort of watching it [the political struggle] gently, out of the way, I believe.”
Harris added this about his character’s perspective on the conflict. I mean, he’s been in charge for a significant amount of time, and he’s aware that it’s going to be challenging for him to maintain that position.
I believe that he can see the end approaching, but that he is unaware that it would occur in the manner in which it does.
But he is aware that the tides are changing beneath him, and that he will not be able to change along with the times. They are going to make adjustments that will put him out of favour.
During the first season of “Carnival Row,” Harris has become a well-known character actor and has had roles in a variety of films and television shows, such as “Foundation” and “Morbius.”
