Aaron Roosevelt Rouse (born January 8, 1984) is a former American football safety who last played for the United Football League’s Virginia Destroyers. The Green Bay Packers selected him in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

He was a Virginia Tech Hokies football player. The New York Giants claimed Rouse off waivers on September 24, 2009, after Kenny Phillips was placed on injured reserve.

With his unrivalled combination of size, strength, and speed, Rouse entered the 2007 NFL Draft as one of the top safety prospects. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.59 40-yard dash while standing 6’4 and weighing 223 pounds.

While his physical attributes impressed scouts, his lacklustre senior season significantly lowered his draught stock; Rouse was projected as a late first-round to second-round draught pick by many.

Rouse started the season as a backup against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 in place of the injured Atari Bigby. In the game, he had 9 tackles and 2 assists. However, on the following Wednesday, September 23, 2009, he was released from the team and replaced by Matt Giordano.

Rouse attended Virginia’s First Colonial High School, where he excelled at a variety of positions, including outside linebacker and wide receiver. As a linebacker, he was named first-team Group AAA by The Associated Press and second-team by the state coaches.

In his senior year, he was named Virginia Beach District Defensive Player of the Year, but he lost the state award to Kai Parham, who also played in the Beach District. He also played basketball and earned a letter.

College Life Of Aaron Rouse

Rouse sat out his freshman year. He finished the season as the backup ‘Field’ outside linebacker with 46 total tackles (19 solo), three tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and two pass deflections. Rivals.com named him to their Freshman All-American team despite only appearing in 13 games and starting one.

During his sophomore season, Rouse remained at outside linebacker as a backup. He had 37 total tackles (16 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble this season. Rouse moved from weak outside linebacker to defensive backfield safety at the end of the season.

Rouse had an outstanding junior season opening at the ‘Rover’ safety position in 2005, collecting 77 total tackles and five interceptions, earning him first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honours and recognition as one of the top safeties in the country.

He was the defensive captain for Virginia Tech and chose to finish his senior year in college. He was known for his hard hits, which sometimes resulted in penalties.

During his senior year, Rouse did not meet the expectations he had set for himself the previous season; Rouse had an extremely poor performance against Georgia Tech, which landed him on the bench before the game ended.

He had another poor performance the following week against Boston College, which led to him splitting time at safety with fellow senior safety Carey Wade for a three-week stretch four games before the season’s end. He returned to the starting lineup for the final four games of the season, after starting ten games in total. Rouse had 57 total tackles, one forced fumble, two pass deflections, and two interceptions as a senior.

Also, Rouse finished his Virginia Tech career with 217 total tackles (93 solo), 12 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles with one recovery, nine passes defensed, and five interceptions. Rouse started 24 games in his career at Virginia Tech.
