Arunachal Pradesh Launched Scheme to Check Infant Mortality

  • Arunachal Pradesh launched “Dulari Kanya’, a special scheme to check infant mortality in the State, on the occasion of the 68th Republic Day on February 27, 2017.
  • Governor V. Shgnmuganathan launched the scheme, under which the government will deposit Rs 20000 in the bank account of a girl child, bom hi any government It would be paid along with the accrued interest after she attains 18 years of her age.
  • It would not only arrest infant mortality but also keep a track of all pregnant mothers, so that they avail of pre-natal and ante-natal care in the government health centres and go for institutional deliveries.

Bihar Budget 2017-18 Current Affairs

  • The Bihar government presented aRs 1.60 lakh crore budget for 2017-18 on February 27, 2017 with no proposals of – any fresh tax. Finance Minister Abdul Bari Siddqiui presenting a revenue surplus budget of Rs 14555.59 crore in the State Assembly.
  • The State’s fiscal deficit has been estimated at Rs 18112 crore, which is 2.87% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) estimated at Rs 632180.00 crore.
  • The outstanding public debt is estimated at 123104.09 crore in 2017-18 which is 19.47% of GSDP of Rs 632180 crore.
  • The key departments of education, rural development, rural works, energy, health and road construction got a major thrust in the State’s budget.
  • Education got the highest budgetary allocation of Rs 25251.39 crore against the allocation of Rs 21897.02 crore in 2016-17, followed by energy which was allocated Rs 10905.03 crore for 2017-18.
  • The health department’s allocation too was reduced to Rs 7001.52 crore in 2017-18 from Rs 8234.70 crore of 2016-17, the budget document said.
  • The estimated revenue receipts of state government have been put at Rs 137158.41 crore in 2017-18 which is Rs 12568.17 crore more than Rs 124590.24 crore for 2016-17.

Delhi Government Approved around 37% Hike in Minimum Wages

  • The Delhi government approved an around 37% hike in the minimum wages for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled persons in the national capital on February 26,2017.
  • The minimum wages for unskilled persons will be Rs 13350 per month against the existing Rs 9724 per month. For semi-skilled and skilled persons, it will Increase from Rs 10764 to Rs 14698 and from ( Rs 11830 to Rs 16182 per month, respectively.
  • The minimum wages used to be decided on the basis of three points—housing, clothing and food. But the committee, which held seven meetings, has also included education, electricity and fuel considering their market prices.
