Born and raised in Canada, Jonathan Marchessault began his hockey journey in his hometown of Cap-Rouge, Quebec.
He played for several local teams before joining the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). It was during his time with the Remparts that Marchessault began to attract the attention of scouts from NHL teams.
After several seasons in the QMJHL, Marchessault was signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets during the 2012-13 season but was eventually traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014.
Marchessault’s time with the Lightning was brief, but he quickly established himself as a valuable player. He was known for his speed and his ability to make quick decisions on the ice. In 2016, he was traded to the Florida Panthers, where he played for two seasons before being selected by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft.
