Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a Nigerian statesman and erstwhile governor of Lagos State, Nigeria, embarked on his foray into the world of politics in the 1990s, when he won a seat in the Senate of Nigeria’s Third Republic.
Subsequently, in 1999, the politician clinched the gubernatorial position in Lagos State and held sway in that office for two consecutive terms spanning the years from 1999 to 2007.

Bola Tinubu is married to Oluremi Tinubu, who is a minister in the RCCG and a senator. The couple met through Oluremi’s older sister. Bola Ahmed Tinubu: Education
Tinubu’s education, like almost every other part of his life, caused some trouble at some point. He had accidentally lied about the school where he got his degree in accounting.
Tinubu didn’t go to high school because he didn’t have enough money. But he did go to Richard J. Daley College, a community college in Chicago, where he got an associate degree, which is the same thing in Nigeria as an Ordinary National Diploma. In 1992, he joined the Social Democratic Party and became part of the Peoples Front faction, which was led by Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and included politicians like Umaru Yar’Adua, Atiku Abubakar, Baba Gana Kingibe, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Abdullahi Aliyu Sumaila, Magaji Abdullahi, Dapo Sarumi, and Yomi Edu.

In April 2007, after the general elections but before Governor-elect Babatunde Fashola took office, the Federal Government brought Tinubu before the Code of Conduct Bureau to be tried for allegedly illegally running 16 separate foreign accounts.
In January 2009, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission cleared Tinubu, Governor James Ibori of Delta State, and Governor Obong Victor Attah of Akwa Ibom State of conspiracy, money laundering, abuse of office, and official corruption charges related to the sale of V-mobile network shares in 2004.
In March 2009, there were rumours that a plan to kill Tinubu had been made. Mike Okiro, who is Inspector General of Police, was asked by the Alliance for Democracy to do a full investigation. But in September 2009, it was said that the British Metropolitan Police were looking into a deal in which the Lagos State government invested in Econet (now Airtel).
Tinubu said that the deal was easy and good for the state, and that there were no middlemen involved. Britain asked the Federal Government to give them the evidence they needed to continue their investigation and bring charges against the three former governors of Nigeria in a London court. The Federal Government said no.
