Charles Leclerc: Family
Formula One, a highly challenging motorsport to penetrate, demands substantial monetary backing or sponsorship. As such, many of the racers in the Formula One circuit hail from affluent families, like Lance Stroll of Aston Martin or those who are funded by well-heeled sponsors, such as Carlos Slim’s support for Sergio Perez.3
Nonetheless, there exist a number of racers on the grid who come from modest beginnings, such as the Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valterri Bottas, with some like Esteban Ocon facing financial struggles early in their careers despite their families’ best efforts.
Charles Leclerc, despite his upbringing in one of the most opulent neighborhoods in the world, Monte Carlo, did not come from a family of great means as compared to some of his peers on the grid.
Despite this, he disagrees with Lewis Hamilton’s assertion that Formula One is a “billionaires boys’ club,” acknowledging instead that initiatives like the Ferrari Academy were essential in recognizing his abilities and providing him with the financial backing necessary to pursue his dreams of professional racing.
