Using a phrase from American football, we may say that the competition for the weekend box office was full of fascinating plays.
Knock at the Cabin, the most recent film directed by M. Night Shyamalan, debuted at number one on the US box office chart with $14.2 million collected from 3,643 locations.
Despite the fact that this psychologically-tinged horror thriller has the bragging rights of being the film that ultimately knocked Avatar: The Way of Water from the number one place, its opening weekend in North America was the least successful of any film that Shyamalan has directed.
It’s possible that the problem is caused by poor word of mouth. A C CinemaScore was given to Knock at the Cabin, which is a grade worse than the C+ that was given to the prolific writer-most director’s recent movie, Old.
Neither are the final results on PostTrak very impressive. The majority of those in attendance were males, and people between the ages of 18 and 24 made up over sixty percent of those who purchased tickets.

The film ’80 for Brady’ grossed over $12.5 million during its run in theaters and finished in second place overall.
This week, the third-placed “Avatar” sequel continued to perform strongly, bringing in an extra $10.8 million, which brought the cumulative total for North America to $636 million.
After the first ‘Avatar,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ and yet another James Cameron epic, ‘Titanic,’ the record-breaking movie eclipsed all of those records to become the eleventh highest-grossing domestic film of all time and the fourth-highest movie globally.
Another sequel, titled “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” finished in fourth place with a total of $151 million in revenue after bringing in an additional $7.9 million.
With the premiere of ‘BTS Yet to Come in Cinemas,’ a unique cinematic screening of the group’s ‘Yet to Come’ concert in Busan, BTS was able to earn the fifth spot on the chart.
It opened at an astounding 1,111 places to a total of $5.1 million in revenue.
“Avatar: The Way of Water”: Progression Report
In its eighth weekend of release, “Avatar: The Way of Water” earned $10.8 million in domestic ticket sales, placing it in third place.
The run of the picture at number one was comparable to that of “Avatar” in 2009.
Only those two films directed by Cameron and his 1997 adaptation of “Titanic” have maintained their position at the top of the box office for such an extended period of time in the past four decades.
The performance of “The Way of Water” continues to be particularly impressive overseas, where it brought in $27.9 million over the course of this past weekend, bringing its global total to $2.17 billion.
That places it at the fourth greatest gross of all time; Cameron now accounts for three of the top four with his two “Avatar” films and “Titanic.”

“Knock At The Cabin”: What Is It About?
The novel The Cabin at the End of the World, written by Paul Tremblay in 2018, was adapted into the film Knock at the Cabin.
Both the book and the movie tell the story of a couple and their young daughter who are spending their vacation in a rural rental cabin.
While they are there, the cabin is broken into by four members of a doomsday cult who tell the family that they must make a sacrifice of one of them or the world will end.
The longer the family takes to select who must pass away, the greater the number of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and plagues, that would afflict the planet Earth. At least, that is the assertion made by the members of the sect.
Although it is reasonable to be skeptical of statements of this nature, Shyamalan’s film adaptation takes a stance in support of the cult members and avoids portraying them in a comical or overly exaggerated light (thanks in large part to an excellent, career-best performance by Guardians of the Galaxy and Army of the Dead star Dave Bautista).
Their deathly seriousness and conviction lends credence to their claims, but more importantly, it makes the family’s skepticism, particularly the anger coming from hot-headed Andrew (Ben Aldridge), seem more misguided than the four weirdos brandishing weapons and asserting that the end of the world is near.
M. Night Shyamalan’s More Hits Explored!
In spite of the fact that M. Night Shyamalan’s early career was replete with hits like Signs, The Village, and Unbreakable, the fact that one can reasonably anticipate a major plot twist in each of his films means that audiences are frequently left feeling a little let down by the conclusions of some of his movies.
When the director was responsible for a spate of critically panned films that tanked at the box office, including After Earth and The Happening, it appeared that the director’s good fortune had run out.
Nevertheless, Shyamalan was back to his old self by the time The Visit was published in 2015.
Following it up with the No. 1 movie Split and its connected sequel Glass, which also snagged the top place as soon as it was released, the director built up a streak of chart-topping successes, which resulted in him becoming the most successful director in history.
In 2021, he accomplished this feat once more with Old, an adaptation of a graphic novel with the same name, and Knock at the Cabin has extended his winning record.
