Vasek Pospisil: Parents

The Pospisils’ son, Vasek, was named after his father, Milos, and his mother, Mila.

In 1988, the couple fled the communist regime in Czechoslovakia by car in order to get away from it. They ultimately settled in Austria and Canada, taking their two sons with them.

After arriving in Canada, the two individuals were forced to immediately begin studying English in order to overcome the language barrier.

Milos was employed as a machinery operator at a brewery in addition to working at a grain mill.

After the birth of his third son, Milos began to take an increased interest in tennis. He guided and coached his two older boys, Tom and Petr, on the tennis courts in the community, and he also recorded matches on television so that he could watch them afterwards.

Mila made sure that her family was healthy and happy in Canada so that her husband and their sons could put in long hours and be successful in their endeavors.

Since he was 7 years old, Vasek has received his education at home so that he can devote more time to tennis.

Up until he was 12 years old, his father instructed him in the sport of tennis. Because the younger son needed to find a tennis instructor, the family relocated to Vancouver in 2002 without taking Milos with them.

In Vernon, Vasek connected with Vadim Korkh, a tennis professor who was born in Russia and would go on to become his first professional coach. However, in 2004, his father relocated to Vancouver and began serving as his full-time coach. This occurred two years after the initial incident.

Vasek Pospisil: Childhood And Family

Vasek’s parents, Milo and Mila, welcomed him into the world on June 23, 1990 in Vernon, British Columbia.

Before Vasek was born in 1988, his parents and two older brothers fled the Communist government in Czechoslovakia by stealing a car and driving it illegally across the border into Austria.

Prior to their move, Milo worked as the plant manager of a dairy factory, while Mila was a kindergarten teacher at their previous location. Both of them had previous experience participating in recreational sports competitions and playing games with their sons, such as tennis.

Despite having to work long hours for a poor pay, the family saved enough money to travel to Canada when they were living in the northeastern part of Austria. They finally made the journey to Vernon, British Columbia, in the summer of 1989.

Vernon is a community in the Okanagan Valley, and it was chosen because Milo’s brother was already residing there after having fled their native country in the years prior.

There were only roughly 38,000 people living there at the time. When they first arrived in the country, the whole family had only a basic comprehension of the English language.

Milo held down two jobs: one at a grain mill, and the other at a brewery, where he operated machinery. After the birth of his third child, he found himself devoting more time and attention to the sport of tennis.

He taught Vasek’s older brothers how to play tennis on the local community courts, he watched tennis events on television, and he read tennis publications for pointers and recommendations.

Around the age of three, Vasek began assisting his older siblings and their father during their training sessions by playing the role of ball boy. In addition to that, he was known to “drag a small tennis racket all over the home.”
