Coaching Career Of James Franklin
Franklin began his coaching career as a wide receivers coach at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in 1995. The following season, he took over as defensive secondary coach at his alma mater, East Stroudsburg.
He was also the offensive coordinator for the Danish American Football Federation’s Roskilde Kings that year. He became wide receivers coach at James Madison in 1997 and tight ends coach at Washington State the following year.
Franklin earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Washington State University in 1999.
He was the wide receivers coach at Idaho State in 1999. The Bengals had one of the best statistical seasons in school history that year, with 29 touchdowns, 258 receptions, and over 3,300 passing yards. Idaho State finished ninth in total offence that year.
