Professional career

Josh was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2008 NFL Draft (25th pick of the fifth round). He made his first regular-season NFL appearance against the New York Giants on September 27, 2009. Furthermore, on September 28, 2010, he was appointed the starting quarterback, and on October 4, 2010, he made his first career start. Josh had a 95.6 passing rating as a backup quarterback to Josh Freeman during the 2010 season, completing 14-16 passes for 111 yards.

Josh began in place of the injured Josh Freeman on December 4, 2011, and completed 16 passes for 229 yards, one touchdown pass, and one interception.

He signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on March 24, 2012, and was added to the team’s regular-season roster on August 31, 2012. Josh appeared in two UFL games with the Sacramento Mountain Lions in 2012.

Also, Josh joined with the Cleveland Browns on December 26, 2012, following the injuries to Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy. In addition, the team’s starter, Thad Lewis, was injured, and Josh only played one snap in Week 17. The sack-fumble resulted from a single snap.
