Meet Andrei Svechnikov’s Elder Brother Evgeny Svechnikov

Andrei Svechnikov and his brother Evgeny Svechnikov are both NHL wingers who play for separate teams. Evgeny plays left wing for the San Jose Sharks, while Andrei plays right wing for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Evgeny and Andrei, native Russian siblings, grew up playing ice hockey together in Russia. They later relocated to the United States after being lured by National Hockey League teams. Even though they play for American teams, they occasionally represent Russia at international tournaments.

Evgeny, the elder brother, was chosen by the Detroit Red Wings in the 19th round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He later signed with the San Jose Sharks as a left winger. Meanwhile, Andrei was selected second overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

Andrei Svechnikov Looks Up To His Brother Evgeny Svechnikov

Andrei Svechnikov and his older brother Evgeny Svechnikov have been playing ice hockey since they were children.

When the Detroit Red Wings selected Evgeny Svechnikov 19th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Andrei aspired to join the same team. However, he was chosen by the Hurricanes in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

The younger Svechnikov claimed it would be a dream to assist Team Russia defeat Team Czech Republic 9-2 in the Under-18 Five Nations Tournament at USA Hockey Arena because they could win the Stanley Cup together.

Svechnikov was ranked first among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting, second by HockeyProspect.com, and third by ISS Hockey and Future Considerations.

Svechnikov is followed by scouts and front office personnel wherever he goes, including the Five Nations Tournament in Plymouth. He is aware that he is being watched, yet he is indifferent. According to NHL.com, Andrei Svechnikov chatted with his brother briefly during the offseason and speaks with him on a daily basis.

The Svechnikov brothers have considered selecting the younger Svechnikov, even if it means the Wings missing the playoffs and a lot of luck. “I want it too,” the elder Svechnikov acknowledged. When we were younger, he tried to play as a team.

Despite the fact that the siblings’ ambition of playing together was not realised during the NHL draught in 2018, young Svechnikov was drafted second overall by the Carolina Hurricanes the same year.

Andrei And Evgeny Svechnikov Were Close To Play Together Again, In 2021

The Russian winger became an unrestricted free agent in 2021 after the Detroit Red Wings did not issue a qualifying offer. Evgeny Svechnikov, on the other hand, did not play for an NHL team at the time.

Andrei Svechnikov’s older brother need an NHL team. Even though Evgeny is a different style of player than Andrei, he could be a nice fit for the Canes.

Evgeny Svechnikov was rumoured to be on the verge of signing a two-way contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. The team would save money if they let him go and decided he needed to be moved down to the Chicago Wolves for a while to bolster his confidence or get him up to speed.

Anything to keep him warm in case the Canes needed him if they signed him. Evgeny, who is 26 years old and stands 6’3 and weighs 210 pounds, can play the more prominent body role in the bottom six. Despite the fact that he lacked his younger brother’s skill set, he was adaptive.

Both Andrei Svechnikov And Evgeny Svechnikov Have Played For Russia

Andrei and Evgeny Svechnikov have represented Russia in numerous tournaments. In 2015, Andrei finished second in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge.

Although the brothers’ desire of playing for the same club was not realised, they did represent their country. In 2015, Andrei represented his country in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge, the World U-18 Hockey Challenge, and the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. In addition, he represented Russia in the U-18 World Championship in 2017 and the World Junior Championship in 2018.

Similarly, Evgeny Svechnikov represented his country in competitions such as the IIHF U18 World Championship, the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, and the World U-17 Hockey Challenge between 2013 and 2016.

Andrei And Evgeny Svechnikov Faced Off In 2021

The Red Wings did not give Andrei and Evgeny Svechnikov the opportunity to play together. They did, however, get a chance to compete against each other. In June 2021, they faced off against each other in a game between the Carolina Hurricanes and the San Jose Sharks.

Evgeny Svechnikov of the Detroit Red Wings eventually got the chance to play with his brother Andrei Svechnikov of the Carolina Hurricanes. The two brothers from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, had previously played together, but this was their first NHL appearance.

The road to joining the Red Wings has been difficult for the eldest Svechnikov brother. The 26-year-old had a knee injury in 2018 that held him out of the 2018-2019 season.

They were about to play each other the previous season, but Evgeny had been assigned to Grand Rapids the day before. He was injured in the first game of the season in January and returned to the Griffins.

“I was hoping both of those situations,” Evgeny Svechnikov said after practising against his brother on Wednesday. It was, without a doubt, unsatisfactory.”

Svechnikov Brothers Grew Up Playing Hockey Together

Svechnikov Brothers are Russian natives who grew up playing hockey together. As a result, they achieved great success in this lovely game.

Evgeny was born in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia, on October 31, 1996, and his sibling was born in Barnaul, Russia, on March 26, 2000. The siblings grew up together playing ice hockey and acquired a love for the sport.

Svechnikov’s father, Igor, worked as a paediatrician on Sakhalin Island until the 1995 Neftegorsk earthquake caused him to close his practise. He and his family then moved to Barnaul, Siberia, where he worked as a cake vendor.

Elena, Svechnikov’s mother, worked two jobs: she cleaned floors at night and worked at a hockey rink’s front desk during the day. Because of Elena’s proximity to the ice hockey rink, both of her sons had an early interest in the sport, and Svechnikov began skating at the age of three.

Igor and Elena came to Moscow to encourage their children’s hockey growth, but after a year, they were recruited by Ak Bars Kazan, and the family moved to Kazan.

Elena followed Svechnikov to Michigan when he moved there to play in the USHL, and because Evgeny was nearby, they often got together.
