Sweat was reportedly diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the same time, forcing several teams to drop him from their selection boards. Despite this, Sweat was taken in the first round, 26th overall, by the Washington Redskins in the 2019 NFL Draft. After selecting Dwayne Haskins with their first-round choice, the team moved back up into the first round to get him. On May 29, 2019, he signed a four-year rookie deal.
