David Krejci and his wife Naomi Starr are both from the Czech town of Olomouc. Naomi Starr, the Boston Bruins Centre’s partner, is a former model.

They just celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary. Naomi gave up her profession as a fashion model after marrying and having children with her spouse. The adorable couple has two children, a girl and a son.

Playing Career

David was selected first overall by the Boston Bruins in the second round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft (63rd overall).

He was drafted after playing for HC Kladno in the Czech junior levels.

Following his selection, David relocated to North America to play two seasons of major junior hockey for the Gatineau Olympiques in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

In 2006-07, David made his pro debut with the Providence Bruins, the Bruins’ American Hockey League (AHL) club.

On January 30, 2007, David made his NHL debut in a 7-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, however he was concussed by Buffalo’s Adam Mair during his third shift.

David only had 2:07 minutes of ice time. The following season, David saw increased playing time with Boston, appearing in 56 NHL games in addition to 25 in Providence.

On February 19, 2008, he scored in a shootout tie-breaker round in a Bruins road game against the Carolina Hurricanes, helping the Bruins win 2-1.

However, David’s shootout goal would not count as his first NHL goal because shootout goals are not included in a player’s statistical totals.

David scored his first official NHL goal against Martin Gerber of the Ottawa Senators a week later on February 26th, as the second Bruins goal in a 4-0 home-ice shutout. He ended his rookie NHL season with six goals and twenty-seven points.

David got his first NHL hat-trick against the Toronto Maple Leafs on December 18, 2008. In an 8-5 Bruins victory, he scored his first two goals against starter Vesa Toskala and his third against Curtis Joseph.

David was selected the Boston Bruins’ 2009 Seventh Player Award winner before a game on April 2, 2009. The award is given each year to the player who “goes above and beyond the call of duty and exceeds all expectations” throughout the season.

During the game, David assisted on a goal by Milan Lucic (the 2008 Seventh Player Award winner) in a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators at home.

David finished his second NHL season with 73 points in 82 games and a league-leading plus-minus rating of +37, earning him the NHL Plus-Minus Award.

David set a career high with 73 points in the regular season in 2008-09. He signed a multi-year contract with the Bruins on June 2, 2009, allegedly a three-year agreement for $3.75 million each year.

David became significantly unwell in early November 2009. On November 5th, he was diagnosed with an H1N1 virus illness, which forced him to miss time.

David Krejci Scores His First NHL Hat-Trick

During the 2008-09 season, Krej earned his first NHL hat-trick on December 18, 2008, against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He scored his first two goals against starter Vesa Toskala and his third goal against Curtis Joseph in the Bruins’ 8-5 triumph.

Toward the middle of that season, Krej got the nickname “The Matrix” from NESN’s play-by-play TV announcer Jack Edwards, who did so for broadcast Bruins games because of his ability to slow down a game with his skating approach and skills on the ice.

Krej received the Boston Bruins’ 2009 Seventh Participant Award prior to a game on April 2, 2009. The participant who “goes above and beyond the decision of obligation and above all expectations” during the season earns the prize each year. Krej assisted on a goal by Milan Lucic, the 2008 Seventh Participant Award winner, in a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on home ice.

In his second NHL season, he finished with a league-best +37 plus/minus rating and a then-career-high 73 factors in 82 games. On June 2, 2009, he agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the Bruins, allegedly for a three-year deal with a median of $3.75 million each year.
