Through their shared interest in horses, horse trainer Annabel Neasham and Sky Racing athlete Lizzie Jelfs formed an exceptional friendship.

As a child in the English village of Croughton in Northamptonshire, Annabel honed her riding skills through eventing, show-jumping, and hunting.

She was initially drawn to racing by the British jumps scene, where she was a die-hard fan of the Cheltenham Festival and other National Hunt contests.

She started training on her own in August 2020 and coached her first Group 1 winner, Mo’unga, in the Rosehill Guineas within eight months.

Jelfs is a former Sky Racing mounting yard genius who can predict winners based on the appearance, mannerisms, and movement of a horse.

She is also well-known in Australian horse racing, where she provides viewers with intelligent analysis and guidance on a variety of media channels, most notably Channel 7 Racing.

Annabel worked with Neasham to select yearlings at the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale in January 2022. They ran Brisbane champion and ATC Sires’ Produce sixth Queen Of Wizardry together.

Last year, the two joined up to buy a Smart Missile filly at the Millions sale for A$130,000.

Jelf has also formally joined a strong team at Neasham’s nascent training facility, which will provide her even more strength as she works with bloodstock expert Brian McGuire to select yearlings early this year.

She also hopes to bring in a new and diverse customer to Neasham’s ownership group through “Race With Lizzie.”

Neasham purchased Zaaki from Tattersall Horses during the Training Sale in October 2020. Since arriving in Australia, Zaaki has won the Gr2 Hollindale Stakes, Gr1 Doomben Cup, Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes, and Gr2 Q22.

In her first year as a trainer, Neasham has five Group 1 triumphs, the most notable being three-time Group 1 winner Zaaki.
