Is Madam Hawthorne Based on a Real Woman?
In ‘The Curse of Bridge Hollow,’ Sydney and her family move to Bridge Hollow and settle in an old mansion. Sydney soon learns that the mansion belongs to Madam Hawthrone, a former village resident. She was a legendary figure in town who died many years ago, leaving a sizable inheritance to her daughter. The Hawthorne mansion was auctioned off along with other goods belonging to Madam Hawthrone after her daughter relocated to a nursing facility. The neighborhood school has a Madam Hawthorne monument.
She is classified as a spiritual medium, someone who can communicate with paranormal beings. A flashback scene, on the other hand, presents Madam Hawthorne as a witch with magic and tremendous spells at her disposal. She used her abilities to capture the spirit of Stingy Jack. In actuality, Stingy Jack’s folklore is related with Halloween, but there is no mention of a woman named Madam Hawthorne confining the evil creature. Given the mystical element associated with the persona, it is safe to assume Madam Hawthorne is a made-up character. Madam Hawthorne, like the titular town, is a fictional character who helps the novel give a new spin on the Halloween event.

How Did She Trap Stingy Jack?
Sydney discovers the legend of Stingy Jack in the film. Years ago, he was a harsh and wicked guy who resided in Bridge Hollow. Stingy Jack plagued the townspeople and caused them problems. The townspeople resolved to murder Stingy Jack one day. However, the Devil had mercy on Stingy Jack and handed him a lantern filled with Hell’s flames so that he might exact his revenge on Bridge Hollow. The lantern gave Stingy Jack incredible power, and it was nearly impossible to stop his rampage, according to flashbacks.
Madam Hawthorne, on the other hand, stepped in to defend the village from the evil spirit. She employed a magical spell to confine the spirit inside the lantern, bestowing it with magical abilities. As a result, Madam Hawthorne was able to prevent Stingy Jack from destroying the town and its Halloween. While the actual nature of Madam Hawthorne’s spell and the degree of her supernatural powers are unknown, she was unable to entirely extinguish Stingy Jack’s spirit.
Madam Hawthorne’s abilities were most likely ineffective against the Hellfire. As a result, she was unable to overcome Stingy Jack and cast him into the land of the dead. Instead, she managed to confine Stingy Jack inside the lantern and have the monster appear on Halloween every year. Finally, Madam Hawthorne assists Sydney and Howard in recapturing Stingy Jack by disclosing the enchantment she employed to stop the spirit’s mayhem. The film radically modifies the original Irish myth of Stingy Jack by portraying Madam Hawthorne as the person who defeated him.
